Project goals and objectives

The ultimate goal is to consolidate the long-term experience of the mentorship programme at the Azot branch of Uralchem JSC and demonstrate its effectiveness. Key objectives:

Increase the prestige of mentorship by promoting the programme;

Expand the coverage of mentor training activities;

Find new effective methods of development mentors;

Involve as many employees in the project as possible;

Demonstrate the role of a mentor in training and orientation of new employees and in improving labour productivity.

Target audience of the project

Employees and mentors of the Azot branch including classroom training teachers, on-the-job training instructors, internship facilitators for existing employees and students, succession development managers, former leaders of the plant.

Activities within the project

Training activities for different mentor categories:

Beginners:

basics of psychology and teaching for teachers and instructors;

the Buddy e-learning course allowing customised on-the-job training.

Experience building:

express courses for mentors involving in-house experts.

Advanced:

hands-on workshops for mentors involving external practitioners.

Developing activities:

micro-courses on process mapping, 5S, KPIs;

Round table expert discussions, case tournaments, experience sharing;

Mutual training of mentors as part of the TOP and TOP-1 successor modular training programme covering finances, operating efficiency, HR, production processes and equipment, investment activities, health and safety, followed by initiation and defence of special projects by successors;

The Best Mentor 2023 competition.

Promotional activities:

The Faces of the Plant video project consisting of five video clips: “Participants of the Best Mentor competition”, “Experts of the Plant”, “Training of students and interns”, “Group training teachers”, “On-the-job training” sharing experience, advice, principles and achievements of the 45 best mentors and experts of the plant;

Consolidation of the mentorship experience and presentation of the programme at regional and national conferences, congresses and competitions.

Achievements and results

In 2023, the coverage of mentors by developing activities became five times greater than the historical annual average coverage rate. The project united 245 mentors from the plant and involved all plant employees into the processes. Azot mentors annually facilitate adaptation process for around 500 interns.

The mentorship system of the Azot branch won several high-profile competitions including the 1st place in the Best Mentorship System in Industrial Organisations of Russia at the Sixth Russian Mentorship Competition, the 1st place at the Mentorship and Lean Manufacturing Championship, and the 2nd place at the Best Occupational Mentorship Practices regional competition.
