The annual Territory art festival, organized by Polyus in partnership with the Territory Culture and Contemporary Art Development Foundation and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA), takes place in cities across Russia: Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Magadan, and Yakutsk. It brings together thousands of spectators and showcases a diverse array of theater, dance, visual arts, and music performances. The week-long event encompasses numerous shows and activities held throughout the host city. The festival’s highlight is the culmination of the Polyus: Golden Season Theater Contest, where winners are announced and awarded grants to present their performances as part of the festival’s program. Additionally, the festival and contest feature a range of educational events.
In 2023, the Territory art festival was held in Magadan (Territory. Magadan), marking its third edition in the de facto capital city of Kolyma and commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Magadan Region. Between June 9 and 15, residents and visitors of the city enjoyed outstanding performances by renowned Moscow theaters, winning productions from the 8th Polyus: Golden Season Theater Contest, as well as readings of contemporary plays. The festival’s professional program featured lectures and workshops by leading actors, directors, composers, theater critics, and other art professionals. Also, as part of the festival’s 2023 edition, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art unveiled a photography project titled The Power of All-Encompassing Communication, exploring the nuances of information transmission and interpretation within society.
In 2023, the festival featured 42 events, drawing over 4,000 spectators (productions by Moscow theaters, an immersive city walk, performances by the winners of the Polyus Theater Contest, readings of contemporary plays, a photography project on the role of information in society and more)
