The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 29) took place on November 11-22, 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The Alliance sessions were included in the Business Days program of Russia Pavillion, organized by the Local Network of the UN Global Compact.
On November 16 the Pavillion hosted two expert discussions: "Decarbonization: Economic Effects for the Corporate Sector" and "Climate Nature Nexus: At the Crossroads of Climate and Environment" with the support of En+ Holding, which chairs the Alliance’s Climate Working Group.
At the invitation of the Association of European Businesses (AEB), Mr. Andrey Sharonov, CEO of the ESG Alliance, took part in the round table “Russia on its Path Towards Sustainability: What is the Place for Foreign Business”.
On November 18, at the initiative of Polyus, the largest gold producer in Russia (leads the Alliance’s Committee on International Cooperation), a session entitled “Biodiversity Conservation for a Sustainable Future” was held, and on November 19, PhosAgro brought together experts for a discussion “Innovations and Artificial Intelligence – Transformative Technologies to Combat Climate Change”.
The sessions organized by the ESG Alliance and its founding members were attended by representatives of the Russian delegation (RUSAL, Norilsk Nickel, SIBUR, EN+, Polyus, Uralchem, Sber, PhosAgro, Severstal, Kept, Forbes Russia, Carbon Zero, Cognitive Technologies Group, EFKO Group, St. Petersburg Exchange, SOCAR), as well as international experts (Earthood, Earthood Russia, E+ Institute; Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Colombia; Center for Climate, Environment and Health, International Institute of Health Management Research, India; Center for Environmental Sciences, Addis Ababa University; King's College London).
In addition, at the invitation of the Bank of Russia, Mr. Andrey Sharonov moderated the session "Scaling Up Green Finance" that took place on November 20, 2024.
